My Educational Philosophy

My beliefs regarding teaching and learning with technology are quite simple. I first believe that teaching is an art, and like any mode of art, teaching has various "right ways" of doing the job. However, also like a piece of art, without time and effort, your teaching will be merely sketches of what good teaching really is. I know right now I have only sketched what it takes to teach; exquisite teaching takes time, but with years of service, my own teaching will continue to grow into a piece of art. With that piece of art, you must share and allow feedback in order to make your art a masterpiece, so I know the more students, parents and faculty I work with will inevitably make me a stronger and better educator.

Learning to me is also a multi-faceted art. Learning must occur in the here and now, be meaningful and must make an impact or connect on our daily lives. We must make sense of our learning, otherwise there is no point in knowing and doing things that don't make sense. While things need to be learned with pencil and paper, using rote memory and skill, learning must also occur digitally and with current events to make learning meaningful and more concrete.

With this being said, technology, I believe is one of the answers for strong teaching and learning. Since our world is ever-changing, and many students today will be asked to use some sort of technology in the future, teaching them at a young age is crucial for mastery, comfort and knowledge with technology.
